From its founding in 1949, WBNS Television has strived to bring to central Ohio the highest quality news and entertainment programming and set the standard in caring for the community while utilizing the finest in television technology.

WBNS-TV is the most-watched news channel in the heart of Ohio, delivering 24-hour news, CBS programming and sports, top-rated syndicated programs and award-winning local programming.

10TV News HD has led the Columbus television market in ratings more often than any other station in the past 50 years. Advertisers benefit from WBNS-10TV's leadership role in the market and impressive coverage area of nearly 30 Ohio counties.

WBNS-TV stands on the cutting edge of television broadcasting as it has since its inception over 50 years ago. Today, high-definition television (HDTV) is the way of the future and WBNS-TV is among the handful of television stations in the U.S. that can and does air programs in this breakthrough technology.

Milestones

The call letters -- from the radio station and derived from the Wolfe family businesses -- banks, newspapers and shoes were approved for Channel 10 in the Columbus, Ohio market.

Notable personalities who had their beginnings at WBNS-TV include legendary comedian Jonathan Winters and "Twilight Zone" host Rod Serling.

Ohio's first African-American television personality and famous for his role as Mr. Tree, Piere, and other characters on Luci's Toy Shop, Chuck White.

The Dispatch Broadcast Group established the Ohio News Network as an independent 24-hour cable news service in 1993. Currently, with 80 employees, ONN is available to nearly 1.5 million homes in throughout Ohio.

WBNS-10TV continues to be central Ohio's news leader with the most advanced news-gathering tool in the region. Chopper 10 is a state-of-the-art Bell 407 helicopter with an ultra-sensitive FLIR camera. The "steady-cam" photographs better, with less light and offer crisper pictures than its predecessors.

WBNS-DT10's first live HDTV broadcast took place Sept. 5, 1998, as the Ohio State football team took on the West Virginia Mountaineers in Morgantown, W.Va.
